Rattle depends on the GTK+ libraries for the Gnome user interface widgets. We need to install the correct GTK+ package for our operating system. The installation is independent of the installation of R itself and is emphasised as a preliminary step that is often overlooked when installing Rattle on MS/Windows. The steps are covered together with the operating specific instructions below.
Also be sure to install the Glade libraries (part of the GTK+ package on MS/Windows) before installing RGtk2 otherwise you may find a ``newGladeXML is undefined'' error message when starting up Rattle even if you later installed glade.
