Installing GTK, R, and Rattle

Rattle is distributed as an R package and is freely available from CRAN,A.1 the Comprehensive R Archive Network. The latest development version is also available as an R package from Togaware.A.2 Whilst this is a development version, it is generally quite stable, and bugs are fixed in this version very quickly by the community. The source code is freely available from Google Code,A.3 where it is also possible to join the Rattle users mailing list.

Below we cover the installation of the system. At first this can seem quite daunting, but the process is straightforward and we do cover various contingencies and operating system differences all in one go! We recommend the UbuntuA.4 GNU/Linux operating system as an easy to use, fully featured, and well supported environment distribution based on the DebianA.5 distribution.
