18.8 Filename Completion

20210321

For an interactive shell the environment variable CDPATH is checked for filename completion when using the r Command(cd) command. A good default to set in your .bash_profile (or .bashrc of .bash_<username> if either is loaded through your .bash_profile):

export CDPATH=".:~"

Then when you press in the context of a cd the directory name completion will consider directories in the current directory (.) and in the home directory (~).

$ cd pr<TAB>
