78.3 Gnome Screen Saver

The gnome-screensaver can be invoked from the command line using:

$ gnome-screensaver-command --lock

This will blank the screen, put the monitor to sleep, and lock the screen. On waking, a login prompt window appears.

On releases of Lubuntu from 13.10, the use of gnome-screensaver replaced xscreensaver. On upgrading Kyral it was necessary to manually update the keyboard map by editing the file ~/.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml:

    <!-- Lock the screen on Ctrl + Alt + l-->
    <keybind key="C-A-l">
      <action name="Execute">
        <command>gnome-screensaver-command -l</command>
      </action>

The change takes effect on the next login or after we run:

  $ openbox --reconfigure
