To ensure use of Britush date format, as in 28th September, 2020, use with the british option.

\usepackage[british]{babel} % British dates for \today{}.

For more sophisticated dates and times use , also with the british option.

\usepackage[british]{datetime2} % Enhanced date and time.
\today{}  % 1st October 2020
\DTMnow{} % 1st October 2020 6:43am +10:00

And for ISO standards:

\usepackage{datetime2} % Enhanced date and time.
\today{}  % 2020-10-01
\DTMnow{} % 2020-10-01 06:43:11+10:00
