94.20 UserAgent Browser Identification

Some websites refuse connection except from specific browsers. You can generally convince your Mozilla browser to identify itself as something else by adding something like:

  user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)");

to the appropriate prefs.js file. For example, with firefox, the preferences file is something like .

Plugins also exist to manage how the browser identifies itself to the server. The plugins will have names relating to user agent switching.
